We’re overjoyed to announce that we’ve been awarded the Plastic Free Champions Award by Surfers Against Sewage! This recognition means the world to us, and we’re excited to share a bit about the fantastic work that Surfers Against Sewage does and our ongoing commitment to a plastic-free mission.
Surfers Against Sewage
Surfers Against Sewage is a remarkable charity that has been tirelessly working to protect our oceans and coastlines from plastic pollution. Founded in 1990, they’ve mobilised communities to fight for clean seas, focusing on the vital link between ocean health and our own well-being. From beach clean-ups to campaigns that promote policy change, their efforts have inspired thousands of individuals to take direct action against plastic waste. Their dedication to preserving our natural environments aligns perfectly with our values, making this award even more special.
Our Plastic Free Mission
Since we began in 2008, we made a firm commitment: no plastic in any of our products or packaging. Why? Because we believe that skincare and haircare, shouldn’t come with the harmful baggage of plastic waste. We recognised a troubling trend—many brands were claiming to be eco-friendly, yet their products were often wrapped in plastic.
We also saw that the few plastic-free options available were often priced out of reach for many people. We wanted to change that! Our goal has always been to create affordable, high-quality, plastic-free skincare products that are accessible to everyone.
Did you know that approximately 380 million tons of plastic are produced globally each year, and over half of it is single-use? Most of this plastic will take up to 500 years to decompose, which leads to huge landfills of plastic that will pollute our planet for centuries to come. It’s staggering to think that so much of it ends up in our oceans, harming marine life and polluting our beaches.
Our Commitment to Eliminating Plastic
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to continually reduce plastic in every aspect of our operations.
Packaging: Our plastic free soap bars are lovingly wrapped in recycled and recyclable cartons, coloured with plant-based inks. Our plastic free packaging
Shipping: We ship our orders in sturdy cardboard boxes packed with recycled shredded paper and sealed with eco-friendly paper tape. It’s all about making sure your products arrive safe and sound while staying true to our commitment to the planet.
Friendly Soap HQ: We’re always looking for new ways to reduce plastic in everything we do. That’s why we’ve made sure our office at Friendly Soap HQ is also focused on plastic reduction by using refillable cleaning fluids and plastic-free and eco-toilet rolls. Every little change helps!
